Have you ever wished you could wake up feeling full of energy, ready to start something new? Sometimes, you set your alarm for 5 or 6 in the morning, but end up lying in bed for another half hour, maybe even an hour. You don’t really feel motivated. There’s nothing that makes you jump out of bed, nothing that truly excites you. Maybe you have work, but it starts later. You wonder what to do with your morning, but nothing really grabs you.

Let’s talk about something simple that can change this: having a personal project or a passion project. It doesn’t have to be big. It could be a hobby, a side project, or even just something you’re curious about. The important thing is that it makes you feel alive, that you’re proud of it, and that you can say, “Yes, I did this. This is mine.”

Here’s what I suggest: grab a notebook, a piece of paper, your phone, or your laptop. Write down what you want to achieve. What is your passion project? What is your vision? Where do you want to go with it? Once you have that in mind, ask yourself: what can I do every day, even for just one hour, to move this project forward?

This daily hour is your time to build something that matters to you. It could be a business idea, a side project, or even something open source if you’re into tech, like I am. Maybe you want to bake the perfect strawberry shortcake. Your passion project could be making all kinds of strawberry shortcakes, filming yourself, organizing meetups, or even writing a book about it. You could become the strawberry shortcake star. Or maybe it’s something else, like making the best rum baba, or building a horse-riding carousel, or showing people how to take care of horses.

The point is, you don’t have to be an expert to start. But before you teach others, get better than average. If you want to show people how to bake a rum baba, make a lot of them first. Become the person in your circle who makes the best rum baba. Most people might have tried it once or twice, but if you do it every day for two weeks, you’ll stand out. Then you can teach others.

Of course, you have to love what you’re doing. That’s why I call it a passion project. If it doesn’t excite you, what’s the point? It should be something you’re proud of, something that makes you want to get up in the morning. If you’re not proud of it, your motivation will fade, and that positive energy will disappear.

Imagine a project you know you’ll still love in a year or two, maybe even three. It can change and grow with you, but the core passion will stay the same. The main theme will remain, even as the details shift over time.

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
— Steve Jobs

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”
— Albert Schweitzer

So, think about what truly excites you. Write it down. Give yourself an hour each day to work on it. You’ll be surprised at how much more energy and motivation you’ll have, not just in the morning, but throughout your day.
