Building a sharp instinct is not just about luck or some mysterious sixth sense. It is about developing a way of thinking and acting that becomes automatic over time. When you sense something is right, it is often because your mind has stored knowledge and experience from the past. This know-how helps you judge whether something is good or not, almost without thinking.

Of course, the world does not stand still. What worked yesterday might not work today. That is why it is important to keep learning and stay open to change. Sometimes, we have to let go of old habits and accept new ways of doing things. But even as we adapt, we should not ignore our inner voice.

Too often, we let ourselves be influenced by others—friends, colleagues, or even strangers. We end up making choices that do not really feel like ours. Later, regret creeps in. The truth is, if you make your own decision, you own it. You are responsible for the outcome. If it turns out badly, at least you know it was your choice. Maybe you could have listened to others, but you stood by your own judgment.

There are times, though, when listening to others is wise. If someone has real experience with your situation and has proven themselves trustworthy, their advice can be valuable. These are the exceptions. Most of the time, your instinct is your best guide.

— Henry Ford

“Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.”
