How to Toast to Health Without the Ironic Twist

Have you ever stopped to wonder why we say “to your health” when we clink glasses, even though what’s in those glasses is often far from healthy? It’s a funny contradiction. We raise a glass of wine, beer, or something even stronger, and wish each other good health. If we really meant it, shouldn’t we be toasting with an apple instead?

The apple is often seen as the symbol of health. I find that amusing. I’ve never been particularly passionate about apples, but I get why people associate them with well-being. Still, it’s odd that we don’t say “cheers” with a bite of fruit. Imagine biting into an apple together and saying, “to your health!” It would probably feel more honest.

There’s something lighthearted about these rituals. I enjoy little comforts, like relaxing in a cozy chair or sinking into a soft cushion. These moments of relaxation are important. Finding spaces and habits that help you unwind is not just pleasant, it’s essential. Whether it’s a favorite chair or a quiet corner, these small things can make a big difference.

Taking care of your health—both physical and mental—is crucial. I can’t say it enough: your well-being matters. I wish good health for everyone. No one deserves to be in poor health; it’s just too hard. So please, keep taking care of yourself. I do my best, and I have to admit, I really do like apples. They make me smile.

Physical activity is important too. Mix up your routines, don’t let stress take over. There are things in life we can’t change, and it’s better to let those go. Focus on what you can actually influence. That’s where your energy is best spent. The rest? Let it fall away, like tossing out the trash.

I wish you a day filled with apples—or whatever brings you joy. But more than that, I wish you a good life. It’s funny how, when we leave a shop, we say “have a nice day” or “good afternoon.” Why don’t we wish people a good life instead? It might sound strange, but isn’t that what we really want for each other?

Life is short. There’s no point wasting it on things you don’t enjoy. Go for what matters to you. Take action now. There’s never a perfect moment to start something new. The right time is always now. Don’t put off what you want to do today. If it matters to you, do it today.

I’m rooting for you. I know you can do it. Here’s to your health, your happiness, and your best life.

Life is too short to waste on things you don’t enjoy. The right time is always now.
