Many people go through life as if they’re passengers on a train: wake up, go to work, come home, sleep, repeat. They don’t really have projects of their own, and they don’t make decisions to change their lives for the better. Instead, they let life happen to them, never truly choosing a path that excites them.
But what if you decided to become the main actor in your own story? What if you made your happiness and fulfillment your top priority, above all else?
Right now, I’m standing in a beautiful spot in nature, and it reminds me just how important it is to make choices that bring you joy. It sounds obvious, but so many of us don’t make enough decisions for ourselves. We’re not as independent as we should be when it comes to shaping our lives and making choices that matter.
Being independent and making your own choices should feel natural. If tomorrow I wanted to spend three weeks in Iceland, I’d take time off and go. Of course, you might think, “I don’t have time,” or “I have a family,” or “I don’t have the money.” But if something is truly your number one priority, you’ll find a way to make it happen. If it isn’t, then it’s just not at the top of your list, and that’s okay—but be honest with yourself about it.

If you have a dream, make it your top priority. Dreams are important enough to deserve that spot. For example, being surrounded by nature makes me happy and relaxed. If you love the countryside but live far from it, maybe you should consider moving. If it’s your number one priority, you’ll find a way. When you’re obsessed with something, it becomes possible.
Being the main actor in your life means making choices for yourself, steering your life, and aiming for fulfillment. You should always aim for happiness. Here’s a simple exercise: every evening, rate your day from 0 to 20. If you gave your day a 12, ask yourself why. Go back through your day step by step and figure out what didn’t work. Maybe you didn’t have enough time for yourself. How could you organize your day differently? Make changes for the next day, and keep adjusting until you have a day that feels like a 19 or 20 out of 20.
The goal of life is to be happy. If you’re just enduring your days and not changing anything, you’re not the main actor in your life. Your life belongs to you, so take action, make choices, and keep moving forward. Ask yourself how you can improve, how you can pivot to create a life you enjoy more. This changes everything.
Even as I walk, I notice how my mood shifts depending on my surroundings. When I’m close to nature, I feel better. If you love something, like the countryside, and it’s not in your life, make it a priority to bring it in. If you want it badly enough, you’ll find a way.

This is what it means to have a job or a passion that fits your lifestyle. When you love what you do, it becomes a natural part of your life. You’ll do better work, be more effective, and stand out from others because you’re driven by genuine happiness.

Remember, even if the weather is gloomy, the sun is still behind the clouds. It’s the same with happiness. Some days are gray, but it’s up to you to decide how you interpret things. Worry and stress don’t solve anything. It’s your actions and mindset that shape your life.
Key Takeaways
- Rate your day and adjust until you reach fulfillment.
- Make your dreams your top priority—if you want something enough, you’ll make it happen.
- Your happiness depends on your choices, not your circumstances.
- Don’t wait for the “right time”—take action now.
