How to Start Your Day Positive Without Forced Optimism

Setting an intention for the day might sound like a small thing, but it can completely change how you experience your life. I recently read a book by an Australian author who talks about the importance of intention, especially as part of a morning routine. She calls it the “Health Morning Routine,” and her advice is simple: start your day by telling yourself, “Today is going to be a beautiful day.” Or even better, “Today is already a beautiful day.”

These aren’t just empty words. They’re like positive affirmations—little reminders that you can shape your day with your mindset. When you say these things to yourself, you’re not just hoping for a good day; you’re setting the tone for one.

Music also plays a big part in this. I like to create a playlist that lifts my mood and gets me moving. Right now, I’m using brain.fm, which gives me that extra boost in the morning. Think about those times you’ve been in a hotel, a bar, or a club and felt like anything was possible. Why not try to recreate that same atmosphere at home? The right playlist, good lighting, and a positive mindset can make a huge difference.

That’s one reason I often stay in beautiful hotels or Airbnbs. The change of environment flips a switch in my mind. It’s all about mindset. When you visualize your ideal day and tell yourself, “Today will be exceptional,” you’re already halfway there. Ask yourself: what’s the one thing that, if you do it today, will make you proud? Focus on that.

Vision boards are another tool I use. They’re not just for long-term goals—they can help you set your intentions for the day, too. Look at your vision board in the morning and remind yourself of your goals. Meditation is also great for this. And here’s a tip: get a mini trampoline. When you wake up, jump a bit, move your body, and repeat your intention for the day. Tell yourself, “Today is going to be amazing.” Just saying it can change your whole perspective.

Everything comes down to perception. If you see things the right way, you’ll notice more opportunities and feel more motivated to go after what you want.

The author also suggests doing some light stretching or energy movements in the morning. If you can, step outside and get some sunlight. Even a few minutes of sun can help you wake up and get moving. And don’t forget a big glass of water—at room temperature if possible. I talk about this in my book, “Le succès n’est pas loin.” I recommend drinking two glasses of water when you wake up, about fifteen minutes before eating. You can even skip breakfast if that works for you. The idea that breakfast is the most important meal isn’t always true; it depends on your body and your habits.

Waiting a bit before eating helps your body flush out toxins that build up overnight. This simple habit can help reduce the risk of illnesses like heart disease. I also suggest paying attention to what you eat in the morning, afternoon, and evening—something I cover in detail in my book.

Light therapy is another trick. If it’s winter and you can’t get outside, try light therapy glasses. Just seeing some bright light in the morning can help you wake up faster and get into the right mindset.

Repeat your affirmations, look at your goals, visualize your day, and drink water. But hold off on coffee for the first two hours after waking up. Your body naturally produces cortisol—the stress hormone—when you wake up, so you don’t need caffeine right away. Drinking coffee too early can mess with your cortisol production, which isn’t good. Wait two or three hours before having your first cup.

The same goes for sugary foods in the morning. If you eat something sweet or drink a sugary beverage, you’re more likely to crash in the afternoon. So skip the morning coffee and croissant, even if it feels like a contradiction. Listen to your body.

There are plenty of resources online if you want to learn more, but I go into detail about all of this in my book. There’s so much you can do to make your days better. If you want to go even further, I have a workshop called “Belleeve” where I guide you step by step to improve your daily life.

The best time to take action is always now. Today is the day.
