How to Shift Your Mindset Without Waiting for Luck

Life throws all sorts of things at us. Sometimes, it’s good news. Other times, it’s tough, even tragic events. But what really makes the difference isn’t what happens—it’s your mindset. That’s what I’ve learned, and it’s why I feel fantastic today.

When you have projects, when you’re working on things that matter to you, it keeps you awake to the world. It keeps you alert to what’s happening around you and what you need to do. Sure, unpleasant things happen. Sometimes, it feels like bad luck keeps coming back. You might even ask yourself, “Why is this happening to me?”

If you see yourself as a victim, things only get worse. You start seeing everything in a negative light. You close doors—sometimes you don’t even open the doors that could lead to new chances. You end up thinking, “I can’t do anything. I can’t change.” But if you don’t change, nothing new will happen. Only a fool expects something different by doing the same thing over and over.

Instead, I tell myself: “Okay, maybe some negative or annoying things happened this week. Maybe I could have avoided them, but it happened to me. So what? I’m a winner. I have a winner’s mindset. I’m going to make proactive decisions to improve, to move forward, and to do great things.”

Right now, I’m in a beautiful place—the Docklands in Melbourne. It’s a great environment. But sometimes, we’re not in such nice places. Sometimes, our environment drags us down. Still, it’s not about blaming others. You’re the pilot of your own life. Don’t see yourself as a victim. Act on your life. Don’t just let life happen to you—make decisions today. What can you do instead of standing still? Always move forward. Always make new decisions, try new things, and keep asking, “What’s next?”

By looking at life this way, you start to ask yourself, “What can I do now to make my daily life better? How can I raise my standard of living?” Think about the proactive decisions you can make today that will give you a good life—a life where you invest in yourself and in those close to you. This is how you create a motivating bubble, a space where you and the people around you—your partner, your friends—can all grow.

Don’t wait for others to do it. You are the ambassador of your own life. Take charge and make proactive choices. Just because some people do nothing, that’s not an excuse for you to do nothing too. Ask yourself, “What can I do, at my level, right now?”

You are the pilot of your own life. Don’t just let life happen to you—make decisions today.

The truth is, life is short. You have to go for it now. There’s no point in putting off what you want to do. The best time to take action is today, right now. And you know, if the path is beautiful, you don’t even wonder where it leads. You just enjoy the present, the journey. The real goal in life is to be happy and satisfied with your life.
