We all want to live and work in a place that inspires us, sparks ideas, and gives us energy. The environment around us matters more than we think. It’s not just about having a nice interior or a tidy desk—your whole environment, from your city to your country, even the opening hours of local cafés, can push you forward or hold you back.
I talk about this so much because I see so many people struggling, forcing themselves to do things, and blaming themselves for not being productive. But often, the real problem is that their environment doesn’t match who they want to become. It’s like rowing against the current: you can move forward, but it’s much harder and slower.
Your Environment Is Everything
When I say “environment,” I mean everything around you. Sure, having a home or office that boosts your productivity is great. But your environment is bigger than that. The country you live in, its laws, the culture, the way businesses operate, even the vibe of your local shops—all of this shapes your daily life and your chances of success.
For example, when I lived in Vancouver, Canada, I loved working in cafés. Some were open 24/7, so if I woke up at 3 a.m. with an idea, I could just grab my laptop and go. In other places, everything shuts down at 5 p.m., and people stay home. If you want to start a business in a place where entrepreneurship is frowned upon or made difficult, you’ll have a much harder time.
The key is to ask yourself: Who do I want to become? Once you know that, you can start to see what needs to change in your environment to help you get there. You want your surroundings to work for you, not against you.
It’s Not Always About You

Sometimes, when things feel hard, we blame ourselves. We think we’re lazy or not good enough. But maybe the problem isn’t you—it’s your environment. Think about school: if a student struggles, teachers often blame the student, not their own teaching methods. But not every student learns the same way. The same goes for you. Just because others like where they are doesn’t mean you have to force yourself to fit in.
You have the right to change your environment. Life is short, and it’s yours to live. Don’t spend it trying to please others or avoiding confrontation. Yes, facing change can be tough, but sometimes, one bold move is all it takes to create the life you want.
Success Is Closer Than You Think
I always say—and I wrote this in my book—success isn’t far away. If you want something badly enough, if you’re obsessed with making it happen, you’ll find ways to do it. You’ll find triggers, shortcuts, and new habits that move you forward. Even if you have to work harder than others, if it’s your dream, you’ll give it everything you have.

That’s what success is: being so passionate about something that you keep finding new ways to move forward, day after day. Every evening, I look back on my day and ask: What went well? What didn’t? How can I make tomorrow better? I want to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday—not better than someone else, just better than me.

Be Your Own Hero
My hero is me, ten years from now. I know I’ll never catch up to that version of myself, because as I grow, my hero moves forward too. But that’s what keeps me going. Every morning, I wake up excited to get closer to that person I want to become.
