Life deserves to be lived to the fullest, every single day. Too often, we tell ourselves that we need to save money, to be careful, to wait for the right moment. Of course, saving is important. But money comes and goes. Time, on the other hand, only goes. If you let life pass you by, if you don’t make the most of your time, that’s not just lost hours—it’s lost life.

Time is the most precious resource we have. It’s like a train that never stops. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. That’s why enjoying life, taking time for yourself, and living in the present are priceless. Wherever you are, whatever your surroundings, being present and truly living in the moment is something you can’t put a price tag on.

When you take in the environment around you, when you really notice where you are, you grow. You gain new resources, new knowledge, and experiences you might never have had otherwise. For example, as I look out at a playground, I notice the swings are gone—maybe they’re being replaced or repaired. The park is always being maintained, and even on a cloudy day, it’s still a wonderful place to be. I love being here. I’ve even swum in the bay nearby, though you have to be careful—there was a shark attack here once, but thankfully, the person survived. That’s the only real downside: the sharks, especially if you swim too far out. But otherwise, it’s a beautiful bay, the same one that leads to the Sydney Opera House. The ferries pass through here, and it’s a place that calms and soothes me.

It’s important to slow down sometimes, to decompress, and to enjoy the little things in life. Often, it’s the simplest things that lift us up the most and give us the foundation we need to build something great. That’s what matters most: the simple things. Reading a good book, writing a little, taking a step back to reflect on your life.

Taking a step back is essential. Give yourself moments to think: What do I want to do today? What do I want to do tomorrow? What do I want to change or keep in my life? We all have things we want to change, keep, or swap out. Reflecting on these questions is important because life keeps moving, and we get older whether we like it or not. So, it’s better to make good decisions and enjoy the present, instead of waiting for retirement or some distant future to finally enjoy life. No one knows what the future holds. The goal is to be happy now, to have a peaceful life with fewer worries.

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
— Dalai Lama
