Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, it feels complicated, and you find yourself stuck, unsure of which way to go. You might wonder, “How do I move forward? Why can’t I see another option?” Maybe you enjoy cooking, programming, or taking care of people. These are your passions. But when a passion becomes a job, especially one forced into strict schedules, it can lose its spark.

Many of us crave freedom. We don’t like being tied down by rigid rules or having to clock in and out at set times. Sure, discipline matters, but sometimes you just want to change your pace. Imagine you love baking apple pies or frangipane tarts. When it becomes your job and you’re under pressure to make more and more, you lose the joy. You rush, you stop savoring the process, and the passion fades. The tart you once made with love now feels like just another task.

So, how do you keep that spark alive? How do you keep feeling that vibration inside you that makes life worth living?

Let’s sit together for a moment. Picture us side by side, just talking. Sometimes, you look back and realize days, even years, have slipped by. Maybe you spent three years in a job you didn’t like, living in a place that didn’t feel like home, maybe even with someone you didn’t truly love. Those years are gone, and you can’t get them back. But here’s the good news: you can act now. Don’t lose more time. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you want to do today.

You might say, “But I need a few more days to think.” I get it. It’s not easy to just drop everything and start over. But sometimes, you can “fake it till you make it.” Maybe you keep your apartment, buy a plane ticket, and try out a new life for a while. If you like it, you can say goodbye to your old place for good. If not, you can always come back. Don’t let things like a lease or job stop you. If you need to, quit your job, use your remaining vacation days, and go. Your health and happiness matter more than any sick leave or work obligation.

If you’re not happy at work, it’s okay to take a step back. Ask yourself: is this really the job I want? Or is there something else out there for me? If you’re even asking these questions, it means you have doubts. That’s a sign to look for another path or at least rethink your current one.

Maybe you need more flexibility. Talk to your boss. Explain that you’re not able to give your best because you’re not feeling fulfilled. Ask for flexible hours or the chance to work from home. Say it’s for your well-being. If you’re giving 80% of your life to a company, it’s fair to ask for something in return. If they say no, maybe it’s time to move on.

It’s not always easy to have these conversations, but it’s important to be honest. Try to see things from the other person’s point of view, too. Maybe your manager wants everyone in the office for fairness. But everyone is different, and what works for one person might not work for another.

When I lived in Ireland, it was common to work from home on Thursdays and Fridays. You could fly to another country on Wednesday night, work remotely, and spend the weekend exploring a new city. It gave you a taste of a different life, and you could see if it suited you. Even if you only work from home on Fridays, you can travel Thursday night, work from a new place, and enjoy the weekend before heading back.

There are always ways to try new things. This gives you a preview of whether a different lifestyle might fit you better. Life is short. Write down your action plan now. List the things you want to do. Don’t wait.

“The biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that is changing quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.” — Mark Zuckerberg

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” — C.S. Lewis
