How to Prioritize Your Health Without Sacrificing Success

“Self-care is never a selfish act - it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give the care it requires, we do it not only for ourselves, but for the many others whose lives we touch.” ― Parker Palmer, Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation How to Prioritize Your Health Without Sacrificing Success - Photo by Ava Sol on Unsplash

When you think about what truly matters in life, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind. Many people believe that working more, earning more, and hustling harder is the only way to get ahead. But what if the real key to a better life is much simpler? What if the most important investment you can make is in your own health and well-being?

Taking care of yourself—through what you eat, how you manage stress, how well you sleep, and even the environment you live in—is the foundation for everything else. If you’re always chasing money, working three or four jobs, or clocking in 70 to 80 hours a week just to make ends meet, maybe it’s time to ask yourself if this is really the life you want. Sometimes, the best move is to make a big change, even if it means relocating to a place where life is less expensive and you can focus more on your health and happiness.

Imagine living with less stress, giving yourself more space to think, and having moments of calm. These changes can spark creativity and open your mind to new possibilities you never considered before. You’ll find yourself eating better, sleeping more soundly, and enjoying a more balanced life. You’ll have more time for yourself and for the people who matter most—people who, just like you, are only here for a limited time.

Living in the present becomes much easier when you’re not stuck in the cycle of work-sleep-repeat. Work is just a small part of human history, not the purpose of life. The real challenge is to be smart enough to find a way to live more freely. Often, the simplest way to do this is by moving somewhere new. Sometimes, just changing your location can make life easier—whether it’s because the paperwork is simpler, or because the pace of life is slower.

For example, starting a business in the UK is much easier than in France or Belgium. Even though things have changed since the UK left the European Union, it’s still not as hard as people make it out to be. We often put up barriers for ourselves, or we listen to people who have never even tried what we’re considering. It’s like that old game of telephone: someone hears a story from someone else, and by the time it gets to you, it’s completely distorted. Maybe someone had a bad experience in a country and tells you it’s dangerous, but maybe they were just unlucky. Bad things can happen anywhere.

The real goal is to push past your own limits and give yourself as much freedom as possible, so you can truly enjoy life. Picture yourself living by the bay, in a peaceful neighborhood, surrounded by relaxed people. That’s the kind of quality of life you deserve. Right now, as I write this, I’m in Adelaide, on Flinders Street. People here are calm, the weather is beautiful, and life feels good.

Why keep suffering through a life that wears you down? It might seem hard to make a change, but sometimes you need to make things a bit harder for a while so you can have a much better life later. You can keep going as you are, stuck in the same routine, or you can decide to stop, start fresh, and finally live the life you deserve. Life is meant to be enjoyed fully, not just survived.

Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.
