How to Organize Your Days Without Getting Bored

Have you ever thought about your day as a system—a kind of engine that keeps you moving forward? That’s what I want to share with you today: the idea of treating your days like a system, using templates and themes you can reuse, just like you would with a good software tool.
A template isn’t just a static model; it’s something you edit and shape to fit what you need to do each day. When you create your day as a system, you start by asking yourself: What are the three things I absolutely need to do today? Then, you figure out how to actually get them done—not just by sitting down and forcing yourself, but by making the process more interesting and less of a chore.
Let’s be honest: if you just repeat the same routine every day, it can get boring fast. The trick is to find ways to make even the most tedious tasks something you look forward to. That’s what keeps you driven.
Why Think in Systems?
As an engineer, I’ve always loved finding ways to automate my work and make it more enjoyable. But more than that, I want to avoid repeating the same mistakes. When a problem pops up, I see it as an opportunity to put something in place so it doesn’t happen again.
You can read all the advice in the world, but sometimes you need to make mistakes yourself before you really learn. When you hit a wall, you realize you never want to make that mistake again. That’s when you start building systems—clear processes you can write down and follow.
I like using Notion for this. I don’t use it much for notes, but for processes and templates, it’s excellent. You can build your own templates and reuse them, adapting as you go. I even use templates for structuring my courses and for job interviews. Depending on the position—junior, senior, architect, or data scientist—the interview process changes. A good template lets you tweak things quickly to fit the situation.
Adaptation Is Key

Continuous adaptation is crucial. Just because something works now doesn’t mean it will work in a year or two. Life changes, and so do you—your skills, your interests, what motivates you. What excites you today might not do the trick tomorrow.
That’s why it’s so important to focus on what you want to do today. Don’t put off what matters to you now, because tomorrow will be different. Your goals and motivations will shift, so act today.
The Power of Mission and Interpretation
Sometimes, we don’t feel driven by our work. But maybe it’s just the way we interpret what we’re doing. Changing how you see your work can make a huge difference. Take a moment to reflect: What’s working? What isn’t? What could you change to make your day better?
Motivation is important, but it doesn’t last forever. That’s where routines and habits come in—they keep you going when motivation fades. Still, even habits can lose their meaning over time. That’s why rewards matter, too.
Small Rewards Matter
For me, a simple reward is grabbing a coffee at a local café. I like to sit outside for five or ten minutes, surrounded by trees, dogs, and birds. It’s a small break, but it makes a difference. I do this in the morning, and if I finish a big task in the afternoon, I’ll take another break. These moments help me reset and feel better.
Breathing exercises help, too. Try the “4-4-4” method: inhale for four seconds, hold for four seconds, exhale for four seconds. Or try “4-7-8”: inhale for four seconds, hold for seven, exhale for eight. Find what works for you. These little pauses can really help.
Discipline Brings Freedom
Discipline might sound strict, but it actually gives you more freedom. If you’re disciplined with your tasks, you’ll have more time for other things. Always compare the time you spend with what you get in return.
