Before, you had to use a third-party service, a website, or edit all of the sizes by yourself. That was always a pain, because both iOS and Android require multiple icon sizes, and you’d have to resize and export each one manually. Now, you can just do it, for instance, through ChatGPT right away for your app icon.
Let me walk you through exactly how I did it for my own iOS app. I just used this prompt, with the image of a salmon plate attached:
“Make iOS icon sizes for iOS app, nicely center the image in the middle. Ensure the image won’t be too small within the app icon container. That’s important for a nice looking icon, you know. And use black. So 000000 600 for the black hex code. And then add the app icon container. That’s a color. You don’t have to mention actually the hex code. That’s not necessary. And then ensure it looks bright and the contrast is good.”
That’s literally what I wrote. I didn’t overthink it. I just told ChatGPT what I wanted: center the image, make sure it’s not too small, use black for the background, and make sure the contrast is good. You don’t even have to specify the hex code for the color unless you want to.
ChatGPT then gave me a zip archive file I could download directly. I downloaded it, and now I have all of the icons here, in all the right sizes for iOS. No more fiddling with Photoshop or online icon generators.
One thing you have to know: when ChatGPT gives you a file to download, that link does expire. You have to download the file right away from the link, because if you wait too long, it will expire and you’ll have to generate it again.
Once I had the icons, I could see them, and they looked good. I just uploaded them for my app and that was it. Super simple. You can really use this for so many different purposes: making icons for your iOS app, your Android app, your MacOS app, and so on.
