How to Live Well Without Overcomplicating Life

Have you ever noticed how we tend to make life more complicated than it really is? We often believe that life should be a struggle, that suffering is part of the deal. But what if that’s not true? What if life is meant to be simple, enjoyable, and full of small pleasures?
I once jotted down some thoughts about this, and even questioned whether writing them down was a good idea. Sometimes, when you focus too much on your notes, you lose touch with the present moment. But this idea felt important enough to capture, even if it distracted me for a bit.
Life should be simple. It shouldn’t be about suffering. We’re not here to endure pain day after day. Life is meant to be enjoyed, to be lived fully, and to be savored in all its little details. Right now, as I write, there’s construction nearby. Not long ago, there was nothing here, and now there’s a beautiful building taking shape. It’s a reminder that things change, and each moment is unique.
Life is here to lift us up, to help us feel proud of ourselves, to fill us with gratitude. To really live well, you have to be present. Notice all the fantastic things you can do, all the small wonders you can experience. Of course, it all depends on how you see your life. Your perception shapes your reality.

Sometimes I feel like a parrot, repeating myself, but it’s worth repeating: there’s no better way to live than to enjoy life, to be mindful, and to appreciate each day. Life moves forward like a train that never stops. Tomorrow will be a new day, but right now is the only moment you truly have. The birds singing, the sun shining, the sounds around you—this exact combination will never happen again. Every second is unique and cannot be repeated.
That’s why it’s so important to enjoy the little gems life offers. Life is precious and gives us so many wonders. It’s up to us to see the good side of things. We don’t deserve to suffer through life. We deserve to see all the beautiful things we can achieve and experience.
Every day is a new beginning, almost like a new life. If you look at each day this way, you’ll see endless possibilities. What can you accomplish today? What new thing can you learn? Maybe you’ll read a book you’ve never opened, write something new, or try a new recipe. Maybe you’ll make a rum baba or something completely different. These small actions help you enjoy life’s pleasures even more.
So here’s my advice: love your life. Really enjoy it. Maybe it’s 8 a.m. where you are, or maybe it’s later. For me, it’s 9:44 a.m. and I’m working on an open-source project. Later, I might have a great meal, invite my girlfriend to a restaurant, or go to a festival here in Adelaide. There are so many things to do, so many ways to make your day special.
Ask yourself: what can I do today to make my day brighter, to boost my happiness, to make this day exceptional? A collection of beautiful days simply makes a beautiful life.
“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
— Dalai Lama
“The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh
