Flexibility is a key ingredient in personal growth, daily satisfaction, and genuine happiness. Life is always shifting, and being able to adapt to these changes is essential. There will always be constraints, unexpected events, and last-minute changes. For example, today I had two important meetings scheduled. I had prepared thoroughly, ready to deliver technical estimates. But suddenly, an urgent matter came up, and one of the meetings was postponed.

If you get upset every time something in your day changes—like when your long-awaited vacation flight is delayed by a day—you end up missing out on what’s happening right now. Frustration doesn’t solve much unless you use that energy to take action and fix the problem. But if you just sit with your frustration, thinking your whole day is ruined, you’re wasting a day of your life that you’ll never get back.

Instead, try to shift your mindset. When plans change, maybe take a coffee break, go to a small restaurant, or do something else to clear your head. If the change feels heavy, acknowledge it, then turn the page and move on. It’s important to be okay with change. Life is dynamic, always moving, and that’s part of its beauty.

Of course, there are moments when things happen that you never wanted or expected. Sometimes problems pop up at the last minute, or you find yourself working late into the night. It’s always something. If you see these changes as a burden, life feels even harder. But if you accept that life is unpredictable, you can learn to flow with it. Don’t be naive and think everything will always go as planned. Life always finds a way to surprise us.

This isn’t easy. It takes time and practice to master this mindset. But even small actions can help—like having a coffee, distracting yourself, or doing a simple breathing exercise. Breathe in, fill your abdomen and chest, hold for three or four seconds, then breathe out. This simple act can make a big difference. Try going for a walk, jogging, or just focusing on your breath. You’ll notice a real change in how you feel.

Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.
