How to Learn Faster by Borrowing from the Best

Have you ever wondered how some people seem to move ahead so quickly, while others stay stuck in the same place? One of the most powerful habits I’ve picked up is to learn from those who are already much further along the path than I am. Instead of reinventing the wheel, why not look at what the best are doing and adapt it to your own life?

The easiest way to do this is by watching talks, reading or listening to books—especially biographies. Many successful people share their stories and lessons, and these are often available in both written and audio formats. Some people remember better when they read, while others, like me, prefer listening because it fits better into a busy day.

Podcasts are another goldmine. There are so many out there, hosted by people who have already achieved what you want to achieve. The trick is to focus on three or four people who have done, many times over, what you dream of doing. Study them closely. Every morning, maybe at your favorite coffee shop, spend an hour listening, reading, or breaking down what these people have done. The goal is to understand their methods, adapt them to your own style, and apply them to your life, your business, or the problems you’re facing.

Often, the challenges you’re dealing with have already been solved by someone else, maybe in a different field, but the core issue is the same. Think of yourself as an investigator, like those detectives in TV series who dig deep to find the root of a problem. By dissecting the steps others have taken, you can find solutions much faster.

This approach gives you a real head start. You’re not just learning from your own mistakes, but also from the experiences of those who have already been through it all. It’s a way to speed up your learning curve and move forward with more confidence.

If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Success leaves clues. Go figure out what someone who was successful did, and model it. Improve it, but learn their steps. They have knowledge.

— Tony Robbins
