How to Find Real Success Without Chasing Fame

There are a few simple keys that can really make a difference—not just in achieving success, but in finding real happiness and fulfillment. After all, isn’t the point of life to be happy? Here’s what I would do again if I had to start over, and why these ideas matter so much.

1. Have a Clear Goal and Believe in It

The first thing is to have a clear, specific goal. Not just any goal, but one you believe in deeply, with all your heart. When you want something so much that you’re sure it will work out, you wake up every day ready to do something that makes you proud. It’s not about being famous or standing in the spotlight for others. It’s about standing in the spotlight of your own success—whatever that means for you.

2. Be Obsessed With What You Do

This goes hand in hand with the first point. If you think about your goal all the time—morning, noon, and night—you’ll always find better ways to make it happen. Obsession isn’t a bad thing here; it’s what keeps you moving forward, always looking for improvements.

3. Fall in Love With the Problem, Not the Solution

This is especially true if you’re building something, like a startup. It’s easy to get attached to your solution, but the real key is to fall in love with the problem you’re solving. Solutions change over time—formats, trends, and even the way people consume information all shift. But the core problem remains. For example, if you’re helping people find the best places to live or invest in Latin America, that need will always be there, even if the way you deliver your advice changes. Focus on the problem, and you’ll always find new ways to help.

—Charles Darwin

4. Stay Positive

Positivity changes everything. When you’re negative, it’s hard to move forward—you get stuck under a dark cloud. You’re less likely to say yes to opportunities, partnerships, or new ideas. But when you look at things positively, you see more possibilities, you smile more, and you’re open to luck. Sometimes, you just have to give luck a little nudge.

5. Start Your Day With Three Small Wins

Every morning, ask yourself: What are three small things I can do today that will make my day better, even if everything else goes wrong? Visualize your ideal day as soon as you wake up. This simple exercise helps you build better habits and focus on what matters most, right from the start. You never know what the day will bring—unexpected tasks, surprises, or just plain fatigue. By tackling the important things early, you make sure you don’t run out of time or energy for what really matters to you.
