How to Find Lasting Satisfaction Without Chasing More

What does it mean to be satisfied with your life? We all have our own level of satisfaction, and it’s different for everyone. It’s important not to feel completely satisfied after your very first achievement—otherwise, where would the motivation come from to keep moving forward? If you rest on your laurels too soon, you might stop growing. But the opposite is just as dangerous: if you’re never satisfied, always chasing more money, more houses, more cars, you’ll never feel fulfilled. You’ll always want more, and that hunger will follow you to the end of your days.

This is a trap many fall into. Always pushing yourself to do more, work more, sleep less, thinking that happiness is just one more achievement away. But if you’re never satisfied with the results of your efforts, you end up living a life that feels empty, no matter how much you accomplish.

The real challenge is to find a balance. If you have security and you’re surrounded by people you love—your partner, your family, good friends—that’s already a huge accomplishment. Even if you don’t have the best relationship with your family, having a circle of people who support you is a big step toward happiness. Living with people you don’t like, or being surrounded by negativity, makes everything harder.

Personally, I’m lucky. I get along very well with my mother, my partner, and I have a balanced life. But it took work to get here. Everyone’s level of satisfaction is different, but finding the right balance is key. If your life feels safe and you’re surrounded by good people, that already adds a lot to your well-being.

Then comes the question: what’s next? What’s your path in life? If the path itself is beautiful, you don’t even need to ask where it leads—you just enjoy walking it. The real exercise is learning to savor the present. For me, I enjoy my family, my partner, my pet, my colleagues. I love making these videos, helping others live better. I have what I’d call an ideal life, but it took a lot of searching to understand what happiness really means.

Happiness is also a matter of perception. Sometimes, we can’t bring ourselves to say, “Yes, this is good, I like this.” We always see the flaws, what’s missing, what could be better. That constant dissatisfaction can help us improve, but if we never allow ourselves to be happy with what we have, we end up frustrated. And frustration brings negative energy into our lives.

Life is actually simple. The trick is to find the right balance and know when to rest, to say, “I’m satisfied with what I have, and now I’m going to enjoy the fruits of my labor.” I’m a big fan of mini-retirements—taking a break for a few months after working hard for a year or two. I love side projects, open-source work, even if they don’t bring in money. They keep me active and energized.

Everyone has different things that energize them. For some, it’s swimming, football, golf, cooking. For others, it’s work. The key is to find a good balance between manual work, mental work, restful activities, and even non-activities like meditation or prayer. Good sleep is also essential for feeling awake and well.

I recently finished a master’s degree in Data Science while working full-time and juggling side projects, my relationship, and friendships. It wasn’t easy. Sometimes, I could study from home, which helped, but it was still a challenge. When life gets busy, sleep is often the first thing we sacrifice, but that just makes everything harder. Lack of sleep makes us grumpy and less focused. So, it’s important to remember that sleeping well is not a waste of time—it’s what keeps us sharp and happy.

If the path of life is pleasant, you don’t worry about where it leads. You simply enjoy it. That’s really the goal: to be happy, to be content. Surround yourself with people who aren’t toxic. Sometimes that means moving, even going to another country. If every time you go out, people look miserable, it doesn’t help your mood. We all have different sensitivities, so it’s important to get to know yourself.

If the path of life is beautiful, you don’t ask where it leads—you simply enjoy the journey.
