Have you ever woken up feeling a little off, not quite sure why you’re not satisfied? That was me this morning. I realized I hadn’t done anything for myself in the past three weeks. Work had taken over, and I hadn’t spent real time on things that matter to me—whether that’s personal projects or moments with my family, my mom, or my girlfriend.
This lack of personal time left a gap. I noticed I was missing that spark, that feeling of having a project or goal that gets me out of bed. Even though it was Friday, I just stayed in bed after my alarm went off at 5:30 AM. I didn’t get up until 8. I kept asking myself, “Pierre, why are you doing this?”
It hit me: life is too short not to fix what’s missing. Sleeping well is important, but it’s even more important to wake up and feel excited about something. For me, sometimes it’s as simple as planning to visit my favorite café in Sydney—Max.Nord at World Square. Maybe you have your own favorite spot, or maybe it’s about starting your day with a small ritual you love.
But the real shift comes from having a project or a goal. Maybe it’s time to reactivate an old project, or set a new deadline. Give yourself three months to build something—a side project, an open source contribution, anything that excites you. I love creating open source projects. Sure, they don’t pay, but they bring recognition, new skills, and sometimes even better job opportunities. The knowledge you gain is priceless, and if you enjoy it, that’s what matters most.

Your project could be writing a book, taking a course, or developing a new skill. Maybe you want to get better at communication or negotiation. These are what we call “soft skills” in French—skills that aren’t technical, but are just as valuable. Or maybe you want to learn a new technical skill.
The key is not to put off what you want to do today. Everything is possible. The only real limit is the one you set in your own mind. If you want something badly enough, and you put all your energy and focus into it, you’ll find a way. Determination makes things much easier.
