We all have 24 hours in a day. Time moves so quickly—it’s like a train that never stops. Personally, I’m the first to admit I often mismanage my time. I want to do so much, all at once, and I’m rarely satisfied with what I’ve accomplished. That’s my struggle: the more I do, the more I want to do. There’s always this urge for more, more, more.

If you recognize yourself in this, you probably know how hard it is to feel content. Especially if you run your own business, or if you’re working full-time and starting something new on the side—a side business, a project, whatever it is. If you’re anything like me, you’ll always try to do too much. And that’s when you start to burn out. You end up feeling fed up with work, and it can become a real problem.

At some point, you have to tell yourself: “That’s enough for today.” Take time to focus on the present moment. Remind yourself that you’ve done enough, especially if you’re juggling your own business or a demanding job. Rest. Spend quality time with your family, with yourself, or with friends. Go out for a meal. Take a step back.

This distance is important. It gives you a moment to think, to breathe, instead of always running, always rushing, always feeling out of breath. That’s not a pleasant way to live.

So, just take a moment to breathe. Tell yourself, “I’ve done enough for today.” Sure, you could always do more—there’s always something else to add to your to-do list. But you have to draw the line somewhere. Decide that what you’ve done is enough, and let yourself rest.

“You will never feel truly satisfied by work until you are satisfied by life.” — Heather Schuck

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” — Anne Lamott

Reflection

When was the last time you truly allowed yourself to stop and enjoy the moment? Are you chasing “more” at the expense of your own well-being? What would happen if you decided that today, you’ve done enough?
