Living well isn’t about chasing big dreams or waiting for the perfect moment. It’s about feeling truly alive, right here and now. That sensation of being present, of saying to yourself, “I am living, I am here, I am in this moment”—it sounds simple, but it’s actually one of the hardest things to do.

One of the best ways I’ve found to reconnect with myself is to take a short walk every day. Just a moment alone, away from distractions. During these walks, I reflect on the past week, think about what I want to do next, set new goals, and consider what didn’t go so well. I look back on my day—right now, for example, it’s 6 PM, and I’m thinking about how my day went. Did I like how it unfolded? I visualize everything and ask myself how I could have improved my productivity, managed my time better, or handled my relationships differently. Am I proud of myself?

This simple exercise is a form of self-improvement. It’s like clearing out mental clutter, flushing away all the useless thoughts and worries that build up. You get rid of the things you’ve been procrastinating or ruminating about, and you start fresh. It’s a reset that lets you move forward with a clean slate.

Doing this regularly helps you feel lighter, more fulfilled—like a seed planted in fertile soil, growing stronger every day. You grow as a person, faster than if you just stayed in your comfort zone, doing the same things over and over. If you always do what you’ve always done, you can’t expect anything new to happen.

Trying new things is essential, and you shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes. What does “mistake” really mean, anyway? It’s just part of moving forward. We all make them. The important thing is to learn from them. Often, people will tell you, “Don’t do that, it doesn’t work.” But sometimes, you need to try it for yourself. The best way to learn from mistakes is to make them on your own, even if others have warned you. Sometimes, your intuition is right, and what didn’t work for someone else might work for you. But you have to try—you have to test the waters.

I call these walks “presence walks.” They’re moments when you’re truly in the now, fully aware. When you practice this kind of mindfulness, you can reflect on your life and think about what you can do to improve your daily routine, your relationships, and your sense of well-being.

“The best way to predict your future is to create it.”
— Abraham Lincoln

“Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.”
— James Cash Penney

So, take a moment for yourself every day. Reflect, reset, and move forward. You’ll be surprised at how much better you feel, and how much more you can achieve.
