How to Design Your Days Without Waiting for the Right Moment

Many of us dream of launching a project, building a startup, or simply living a life that feels more like our own. But too often, we get caught up in the daily grind. The routine of work, family, and obligations can feel like a tunnel, keeping us from the life we really want. Days turn into months, months into years, and that ideal life seems to slip further away.

But what if you could break free from this cycle? Here are three personal keys that have helped me move closer to the life I want—and that might help you too.

1. Put Yourself First and Take Action

The first key is determination. You have to put your own projects and dreams at the top of your list. It’s easy to get lost in urgent tasks and everyday responsibilities, but if you always put yourself last, your dreams will stay on hold.

Many people get stuck in a comfortable routine. It’s not painful enough to force a change, but it’s not the life they truly want. The trick is to make your own priorities non-negotiable. Every day, do something—no matter how small—that moves you forward. Over time, these small steps add up. This is the principle behind Darren Hardy’s “Compound Effect”: daily actions, even tiny ones, create a powerful momentum.

“Small, smart choices, completed consistently over time, will create radical differences.”
— Darren Hardy

2. Visualize Your Project and Lifestyle

The second key is to see your goal clearly. Map out your dream lifestyle. When you have a big-picture view, it becomes easier to believe in it and work toward it.

One thing that helped me was setting my phone and computer backgrounds to images of places I wanted to visit. For example, when I dreamed of spending time in Iceland, I filled my environment with photos of its landscapes and landmarks. This constant visual reminder kept my goal alive and pushed me to take real steps—like booking a ticket and arranging time off.

When you see your dream every day, your mind starts to spot opportunities that can help you get there. It’s like when you’re obsessed with solving a problem; your brain keeps looking for clues. The more you focus on your goal, the more you notice the right people, events, or resources that can help you.

“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.”
— Buddha

3. Work in 90-Day Sprints

The third key is to break your journey into three-month sessions. Ask yourself: What can I do each day for the next 90 days to move closer to my goal? Set a clear deadline and a daily action plan. You don’t have to do the same thing every day, but you do need to make steady progress.

Ninety days is long enough to make real progress, but short enough to keep you focused. At the end of each period, review what you’ve accomplished and set new goals for the next three months.

And don’t forget: good sleep is a real investment in your projects and your life. I’ve noticed the difference myself—when I’m tired, everything feels harder. So take care of yourself along the way.
