How to Clear Your Mind Without Changing Your Life

My kitchen is a bit messy today. There are too many things lying around, and I realize that even small clutter can take up space in your mind. When you keep everything tucked away in cupboards, you see less, and your mind feels lighter. The fewer things you have around you, the better you feel. The more you clear your surroundings, the more you clear your mind. This makes it easier to focus on what really matters.
After a little break, I usually head to my computer to work on an open-source project. Right now, I’m working with a huge amount of data related to water quality around the world, using the R programming language. It’s a complex project and takes a lot of time and energy. I enjoy it, but I’ve learned how important it is to step back sometimes and reconnect with the basics of life.
These basics are often the small moments that bring us joy. For me, it could be a hot chocolate made with good dark chocolate, or reading a real paper book. These are the things that give you a little boost of dopamine and real satisfaction. Think of the Danish or Scandinavian concept of coziness—maybe you have a fireplace, and you sit by it with a good book and a warm drink. These are the moments that matter most, the ones that bring the most happiness.
I encourage you to find these moments for yourself. Identify what truly brings you pleasure and try to repeat those moments as much as possible. Life is too short to just let it slip by. When you lose an hour or a day, it’s gone forever. Money and things can come and go, but time never comes back. You can’t make a backup of time or go back to yesterday. Life is like a train that never stops.

That’s why it’s so important to enjoy every moment you can. Find what makes you feel good and make space for it in your life. Before you go to bed tonight, think about what you want to change. Make a simple plan to bring more of these good moments into your days. Even small changes can help you live a life that feels right for you.
