When we talk about geographic freedom, it’s easy to imagine someone working on a beach with a laptop. But the real story is much deeper: it’s about feeling free in your choices and your path, especially when you work for yourself.
As an independent worker or freelancer, you’re not tied to a boss. Right now, for example, I’m working on my own app, Mil Snap. When you’re your own boss, you create things for yourself. Of course, there are always rules above us—taxes, laws, the basics of living together in society. That’s normal, and honestly, it’s a good thing. It keeps things fair for everyone.
But the big difference is this: you don’t have someone constantly asking you to explain yourself. No more justifying why you’re not at your desk, why you’re late, or why a project isn’t finished on time. In a regular job, you always have to explain. If you’re a freelancer, it’s a bit similar—you still have to answer to your clients. But if you offer services by the hour and know you’ll finish on time, there are fewer rules, fewer hoops to jump through. You do your coaching or service, the hour ends, and that’s it.
It’s even more freeing if you have your own product. For me, that’s my app. I love working on it. Sure, I still have to meet deadlines. If I don’t release new features, users will wonder why they’re paying for Mil Snap. So, there’s always something to do. But when it’s your own project, it feels different. You’re proud of what you build. You’re a shareholder in your own company.
In some companies, you can get shares or bonuses, but you always have to negotiate—salary, performance reviews, everything. You have to list your achievements and hope for a raise. That’s because the company and you want different things: the company wants the best employees for the lowest price, and you want the best pay with the most freedom. It’s like buying a house—the buyer wants the lowest price, the seller wants the highest. There’s always a bit of a tug-of-war, and you have to find a compromise.

But when you work for yourself, things are simpler. That’s what I want you to realize. If you’re thinking about it, remember: living from your knowledge, teaching, or building a business around what you know is possible. When it’s your own thing, you’re in the driver’s seat.
The best time to start is now. Believe in yourself. Everything is possible if you really want it.
“The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.”
— Peter Drucker

— Mahatma Gandhi
