How to Change Your Life Without Waiting for the Perfect Moment

Deciding your own life means making choices and taking action. The worst thing that can happen to you isn’t failure—it’s doing nothing. Staying stagnant, letting fear hold you back, and never acting is the real danger. It’s normal to be afraid of making decisions, especially when you don’t know what will happen next. The unknown is scary because we can’t predict the consequences or where it will lead us.

But sometimes, a single decision—a simple choice—can completely change the course of your life. Imagine deciding to have coffee at a new place. You meet someone, and that person becomes your partner, your spouse, or your best friend. Suddenly, your life takes a new direction. Or maybe you decide to go for a walk, and something unexpected happens—good or bad—that shifts everything. These moments can seem extreme, but they happen more often than we think.

I’m not saying this to scare you. My goal is the opposite: to wake you up, to make you aware. Life brings us far more positive surprises than negative ones. Taking action is like refueling yourself with energy. If you do nothing, nothing will happen. If you don’t like your life, don’t expect it to change if you keep repeating the same things. You have to try new things. You have to act.

We all make mistakes. Sometimes, a decision really does change everything. Sometimes, it doesn’t. Maybe you lose money or time. Time is precious, but money comes and goes. Even if you don’t get the result you wanted, you learn something. Every experience teaches you, and that knowledge can open new doors later—even if you don’t realize it right away.

Life is made up of countless actions, like building with Lego bricks. Each piece you add helps you move forward and grow. That’s why I encourage everyone not to just be an employee or sit in an office. Try freelancing, become independent, or even start your own project. It doesn’t have to be a big startup—just a personal project, something you do on your own. For me, becoming a freelance IT engineer and data scientist changed everything. I could work from anywhere, travel, and learn new skills. Sometimes companies want you in the office, sometimes not. But if you have the chance, create your own job. Don’t let your studies or your past define you.

If you try something and it doesn’t fit, at least you learned. That’s valuable. By trying new things, you improve your skills—communication, writing, and more. I love writing, and it’s something that brings me joy. Life is full of opportunities, but you have to grab them. Luck isn’t real; it’s about being ready and saying yes when opportunities come.

It all starts with your mindset. A positive mindset opens more doors. You’ll say yes more often, be open to new things, and people will want to talk to you. Even your posture matters. If you look closed off, people won’t approach you. If you look friendly and open, they will. If you want to be open to others, you need to show it in your body language and attitude.

Our thoughts affect our posture and our actions. Don’t sigh and think negative thoughts like, “If only I had…” Instead, ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?” Take responsibility for what happens to you. If you say, “It’s my fault, how could I do better next time?” you’ll find the answer. If you always blame others, you’ll never improve or avoid the same problems.

For example, if trains are always late, maybe look for a job where you don’t need to commute, or move to a place with better public transport. If that’s not possible, plan ahead—take an earlier train to avoid stress. Sometimes, leaving two hours earlier is worth the peace of mind.

Change is possible. Work on your mindset, your positivity, and how you organize your days. Reinterpret events in a way that helps you grow. Life is about learning, acting, and moving forward.

— Abraham Maslow

“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.”
