How to Care for Your Body Before It’s Too Late

When was the last time you truly thought about your body—not just how it looks, but what it does for you every single day? Most of us take our bodies for granted. We eat poorly, stay up too late, drink too much, and sometimes treat our health as if it’s replaceable. But the truth is, we only get one body, and it’s the only real possession we can never swap out.

This realization hit me one morning in a quiet public park. I’d forgotten my microphone, despite all my routines and rituals to keep things in order. It was a small mistake, but it reminded me that even with the best intentions, we’re not perfect. We forget things. We slip up. But when it comes to our health, some mistakes are harder to fix.

The Power and Fragility of Our Bodies

Health is everything. Yet, we often underestimate the strength and importance of our bodies. We feed ourselves junk, stay up late, and sometimes drink or smoke because it seems fun or because everyone else is doing it. The media and some cultures even glamorize alcohol, recreational drugs, and vaping. I’ve seen it firsthand in places like Canada and Australia, where vaping shops are everywhere and these habits are even more popular than in other countries.

Let’s be honest: vaping might be less harmful than cigarettes, but it’s still bad for you. And alcohol? It’s one of the worst things you can put in your body, especially when you’re young. If you’re between 18 and 29, the best advice I can give is not to let yourself be influenced by what’s trendy or what others are doing. Just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

You Only Get One Body

When I was younger, I drank a lot. I went out to clubs and bars, thinking it was all part of having fun. But you can have just as much fun without drinking. The idea that you need to drink to fit in is just peer pressure, and it’s not worth risking your health for a fleeting sense of belonging.

Your body is your most valuable possession. You can’t trade it in for a new one. There’s no backup, no spare. If you treat it badly, you pay the price. That’s why it’s so important to respect yourself and take care of your health. If you don’t, you’re making a bad investment in your own future.

I love the saying in English:

Our body is the greatest piece of real estate we ever own.

— Unknown

It’s true. Your body is the only thing you truly own, and it’s up to you to look after it.

The Environment Matters Too

Where you live and the atmosphere around you also affect your well-being. I noticed this in Australia, especially in cities like Brisbane. The streets are clean, people are kind, and there’s a calmness that lifts your mood. Compare that to places that feel dirty or chaotic, and you can see how much your environment matters. No one wants to live in a dump, and you shouldn’t treat your body like one either.

Treating yourself with respect is the best investment you can make. If you neglect your health, it will catch up with you. Remember, you only get one body. There are no replacements.

Good Habits Build a Better Life

Just having a healthy lifestyle can boost your productivity, help you remember things better, and give you more energy. It’s not about being perfect, but about making better choices every day.

Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.
