Have you ever wondered what really makes someone rich? It’s not just about money or luck. The answer is much more practical: it’s about building the right habits, one on top of another, until they become second nature.

Let’s talk about a method that can change your life: habit stacking. The idea is simple. You take something you already do every day, like having your morning coffee, and you add a new habit to it. In the past, people might have paired their coffee with a cigarette. Today, you can use that same moment to do something that actually moves you forward—like writing, learning, or creating content.

This is how I do it. When I have my coffee, I write a little. When I go for a walk, I create something. Before bed, I make another piece of content. In the morning, while having breakfast, I code. These small actions, stacked onto routines I already have, make sure I get things done every day. It doesn’t take much extra time—maybe 20 minutes to an hour more each day. But it’s a lot better than spending that hour scrolling through social media or wasting time.

Here’s the key: for every half hour you spend consuming content, spend another half hour creating something of your own. This keeps you from falling into the trap of endless learning without action. Many people get stuck thinking they’re not ready, that they need to learn more before they can start. Months and years go by, and nothing changes. The truth is, you have to act. Creating as much as you consume forces you to move forward.

At first, what you make might not be great. But with practice and routine, your work will get better. That’s the difference that counts. Creating content is good, but making it a habit is even better. Stack it onto something you already do—breakfast, coffee, even your shower. For example, when I shower, I review what I learned that day, like new words in Italian, Bisaya, or Japanese. I say them out loud, and it helps me remember.

The real benefit is certainty. You don’t have to wonder if you’ll get things done—you just do them. Even when I’m traveling, like now in Bangkok, I keep my habits. Every time I go on vacation, I make a short video by the pool before bed. It’s simple, but it keeps me sharp and helps me share what I know.

Sharing your knowledge is the best way to communicate what you can do. You can use social networks like LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Medium, dev.to, or even GitHub to spread your ideas. You can gather your content and publish it once a week, or automate or delegate the task if you want. The important thing is to keep the routine going.

Building wealth starts with investing in yourself—your time, your knowledge, and your daily routines. That’s what makes the difference.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Reflection

What habit can you stack onto your daily routine today? Are you spending more time learning or creating? How can you make sure you act, not just plan?
