Imagine you decide to run every day for a month. Maybe you live near a river, with beautiful hotels lining the banks, and you think, “This is the perfect opportunity to go jogging every day.” But then, it rains. Or maybe it’s so hot that even the birds are hiding. Still, you go out and run. If it’s pouring, you put on your shoes and go anyway. If the heat is unbearable, you get up earlier—maybe at 6 a.m.—to beat the sun. Right now, as I’m sharing this with you, it’s 7:18 in the morning and already quite warm, but that’s no excuse.

This approach goes beyond running. Maybe you want to learn programming. You sign up for a bootcamp and commit to it for two or three months. You set yourself the challenge: before the end of the year, you’ll apply to as many companies as possible and land at least one internship. That’s a motivating goal. It gives you a reason to get up every morning and take action.
