We all have so many things we could do, so many things we could accomplish. That’s the beauty of life—it offers us endless possibilities and opportunities to act, to make our dreams real. Each day is a fresh chance to do something new, something that matters to us. Every morning, we get another shot at doing something big, something that excites us, something that makes us feel alive.

Life is too short to live a life that doesn’t fulfill you. You have to go for it. Start now, today, and build things that fascinate you, things that light you up inside. That’s how you get to live the life you love—by making it, day after day. Wasting time, wasting days, is wasting life itself. Time doesn’t wait for anyone. It’s like a train that never stops. So you have to start today, doing things that make you feel alive, things that keep you curious and awake to your own growth.

For me, I love learning. I love discovering new things. I love creating projects. That’s what puts stars in my eyes. It keeps me on my toes, always searching for the next version of myself.

What about you? What’s that thing for you? Maybe it’s baking rum babas or strawberry charlottes, or maybe it’s starting projects like I do. Maybe it’s playing football, learning a new language, jogging, taking care of your pet, or just petting your cat. We all have something we love to do, something we love to make real.

In the end, the real beauty and purpose of life is to be happy. There’s no need to play the game of chasing the most prestigious degrees, the fanciest jobs, just to impress people who don’t even matter to you. The only person you need to impress is yourself—yourself from yesterday.

There’s something else I want to share. I like to keep things tidy, like closing the wardrobe doors, so I can talk to myself clearly. And there’s a story that really stuck with me. Maybe you’ve seen the actor Matthew McConaughey talk about this. He was once asked who his hero was. He said, “It’s me in 10 years.” Ten years later, someone asked him again if he’d become his hero. He said, “Not even close. My hero is me in another 10 years.” So every day, every week, every year, his hero is always ten years away. He knows he’ll never catch up to that hero, and that’s fine. It gives him someone to keep chasing.

Every day, every week, every month, and every year of my life, my hero’s always ten years away. I’m never going to be my hero. I’m not going to attain that. I know I’m not, and that’s just fine with me because that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing. —Matthew McConaughey

That’s a beautiful idea. We are all the hero of our own story, ten years from now. My hero is me in ten years. But I’ll never really be that hero, because in ten years, my hero will still be me in another ten years. It’s about having a vision so big, an ambition so huge, that you know you’ll keep growing, keep achieving.

Even just saying to yourself in the mirror, “Today will be a great day. I’m going to succeed. It’s going to be fantastic,” can change everything. It makes you feel so much better, makes your life feel bigger. You create your own luck by creating your own opportunities. Even if things aren’t great right now, you can say, “I know I’m going to do big things. I have a big vision.”

And it doesn’t matter how old you are. Even if you’re 60, life doesn’t just stop. We’re all young or old in our own way, but age doesn’t have to stop you. Sure, you might feel more tired as you get older, but you can still say, “I’m 80, and I still have things I want to do.” Even if you haven’t done much yet, there’s still time.
