How to Build a Happiness Portfolio Without Chasing Fame

I spend a lot of my time creating web applications and software. Solving problems through code is something I truly enjoy. But when I step back and look at my life, I realize my purpose goes much deeper than just building apps or chasing after money or recognition. The real goal is to do things that make us happy, that fill us with gratitude.

For example, I have an app called M Snap that I’m especially fond of. Every time I release a new version, I notice how good I feel. There’s a sense of satisfaction and happiness that comes from seeing something I’ve built help others. M Snap lets you scan food items and instantly tells you if they’re healthy or not. It’s a simple tool, but it does a lot of useful things.

I’ve also spent years working as a freelancer, building other apps along the way. Each project is more than just a line on my resume. They’re part of what I call my happiness portfolio. These are the things that bring me joy and make me feel grateful.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.

Everyone should have their own happiness portfolio. It’s not just about work or achievements. It’s about collecting projects, hobbies, or even small moments that make you feel alive. These are the things that feed your well-being and help you grow.

It’s important to have projects that nurture you, that give you a sense of well-being. When you focus on these, you grow over time and avoid burning out. One way I manage this is by setting clear boundaries for my time. For example, I’ll work on something for an hour, then stop and switch to something else, even if I haven’t finished. That’s the point. That’s the game. And it makes all the difference.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.

— Albert Schweitzer

Building your happiness portfolio is about more than just ticking off goals. It’s about finding what truly matters to you and making space for it in your life. It’s about being the hero of your own story, not someone else’s.

The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson
