How to Boost Creativity by Focusing on Your Own Projects

Most people spend their days caught up in someone else’s life—working for a company, running around for family, or always following friends. It’s easy to forget yourself in the middle of all this. But if you want to grow, you have to start by focusing on your own life and projects.
Why should you live differently from everyone else? Because you have your own path, your own dreams. Improving yourself starts with investing in yourself. When you put energy into your own growth, you become a better person, and you grow alongside your own journey.
It’s easy to get swallowed up by the noise of other people’s lives. Maybe you’re always busy as a parent, or you’re constantly out with friends. That’s fine, but if you never have a project that’s just yours, you risk losing your sense of direction. Friends move away, life changes, and one day you might find yourself alone. That’s when having your own vision, your own long-term project, really matters. No matter where you end up—even if you find yourself alone in Alaska—your project can keep going, because you’ve invested so much of yourself into it. And as you work on it, you change and grow too.
This is where creative work comes in. When you create—whether it’s writing, making videos, recording audio, or sharing your ideas—you’re building something that follows you everywhere. The way you think changes as you do this every day. You become an expert, even if it’s in a small area. You get better at a skill that’s often rare, because true creative work is unique to each person.

There’s something else I want to share: the idea of a meta-skill. A meta-skill is a skill that helps you learn other skills. For example, if you get good at organizing your thoughts and explaining ideas, that’s a meta-skill. It helps you speak better, structure your ideas, and even build discipline. If you make a video every day, you get regular practice, and that regularity spreads to other parts of your life. One skill leads to many others, almost without you noticing. It’s a multiplying effect.
Think of it like growing potatoes in your own garden instead of buying them at the store. When you plant potatoes, you also learn how to garden, water the soil, work with your hands, and deal with pests. You end up with many skills, not just one. That’s the power of a meta-skill.
So, the most useful thing you can do is find a skill that speaks to you and practice it creatively every day. Ask yourself: What creative thing can I do today? Maybe you want to share your ideas, talk about a dream you had, or explain a technique you use. For me, I sometimes wake up and want to talk about lucid dreaming and the tricks I use to have them. These daily creative acts are what keep me growing.
