How to Become Your Best Self Without Waiting Years

Have you ever looked at yourself and thought, “I’m proud of who I’ve become”? Maybe you’ve felt that spark of satisfaction, that sense of “Yes, this is exactly who I wanted to be.” But for many, as the months and years slip by, there’s a nagging feeling that life hasn’t quite gone the way we hoped. Sometimes, we hear our parents or grandparents say they never got to live the life they truly wanted. They followed the path set by society, felt the weight of expectations, and missed out on making their own choices. That’s a heavy realization. It’s sad because we only get one shot at life. There’s no rewind button, no way to leap back and try again.

This feeling of being stuck, of watching life pass by without grabbing what you really want, can be overwhelming. But here’s the truth: you don’t have to let your story end that way. You can choose, right now, to live the life you want. The best time to start is today.

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now.

Why Wait? The Time and Money Trap

A common excuse is, “I don’t have enough time or money.” But let’s be honest, we never really feel like we have enough of either. If you keep waiting for the perfect moment, it will never come. The real secret is to start with what you have, right now.

Sometimes, I find myself just enjoying the simple things—like seeing my laptop on the bed, or remembering childhood pillow fights with friends and my sister. Those moments remind me that life is about the little joys, but also about taking action. If you want to become the person you admire, you have to start today.

Take Initiative—Every Single Day

Every day, I make it a point to take initiative. It’s not always easy to stay focused. In fact, staying on track is one of the hardest things for me. I try to tackle one project at a time. Right now, I’m working on a nutrition app called M Snap. It lets you scan your food and see if you’re eating in a balanced way. You can track your progress day by day and see if you’re on the right path or if you need to take better care of your health.

Designing this app took a lot of thought. I wanted it to be simple and easy to use. If there’s too much friction, no one will use it. Imagine you have a hot plate of spaghetti in front of you. You want to eat, not mess around with a complicated app. That’s why clarity and simplicity matter so much.

Don’t Get Lost in Distractions

It’s easy to lose your way. Sometimes, you start searching for something online—like the name of a celebrity who only ate spaghetti with parmesan on a reality show—and before you know it, hours have passed. You’ve done nothing meaningful. Years can go by like that if you’re not careful. You end up spending your time on distractions instead of building the life you want.

You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.

Take Control—Start Now

At some point, you have to take control of your life. For me, that meant building my app and creating new habits. It’s about making choices that move you forward, not just letting time slip away.

Here are five habits that can truly change everything:

  1. Start Today, Not Tomorrow
Stop putting things off. The perfect moment doesn’t exist. Begin with what you have, right now.

  2. Focus on One Project at a Time
Multitasking scatters your energy. Pick one thing and give it your full attention.

  3. Track Your Progress
Whether it’s your health, your work, or your personal growth, find a way to measure how you’re doing. This keeps you honest and motivated.

  4. Cut Out Distractions
Notice when you’re wasting time on things that don’t matter. Set boundaries for yourself and stick to them.

  5. Celebrate Small Wins
Every step forward counts. Take time to appreciate your progress, no matter how small.

Keep Your Happiness High

A lot of productivity advice focuses on working harder and being more disciplined. That’s important, but if you only focus on grinding, you’ll burn out and lose your joy. The real goal is to be productive while keeping your happiness and fulfillment high. Build habits that make you feel good about yourself and your life.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.
