How Taking Risks Can Change Your Life Without Regret

How Taking Risks Can Open New Opportunities

Provoking luck is about daring to do things you normally wouldn’t. It means stepping out of your comfort zone or, better yet, expanding it so you can try new things. These new experiences help you grow and move forward in life. It’s not about doing things you dislike, but about doing things that scare you a little—things you want to do deep down but haven’t dared to try yet.

Often, we get stuck in routines that don’t really suit us. We live lives that are shaped by circumstances, by our families, or by the system we grew up in. We follow a mold that society or our environment has set for us. But deep inside, we know that this isn’t the life we want. That’s when we need to realize: “This isn’t the life I want. I need to change.”

Changing your life means trying new projects, new ideas, or new ways of living that better match who you are. Sometimes, it involves sacrifices. For example, playing tennis regularly might seem like a hassle at first—getting up early, paying for a court, traveling. But after a few years, you might be playing really well, feeling proud of yourself, and even meeting new people. Maybe you’ll meet someone special on the court.

I mention tennis because I have a court nearby. In Australia, many apartment buildings have a pool, a tennis court, a gym, and a communal space. It’s very common. In cities like Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne, most buildings have these amenities. Sometimes, you don’t even need to own a house to enjoy a good lifestyle. It’s a matter of choice—do you want that kind of life? Do you need it?

The same applies to food. It’s important to listen to yourself. Often, we make default choices without really thinking about what we want.

Do One Thing That Scares You Every Day

Here’s my challenge for you: do one thing each day that scares you. It could be small or big, but it should push you out of your comfort zone. This is how you grow. It’s how you get closer to your long-term goals or your ideal life.

Everyone wants a life that inspires them, a life that makes them feel alive. But if you keep doing the same things, you won’t see any change. You need to try new things. Publish a video on YouTube, for example. It might seem intimidating, but that’s how success happens—by taking risks and persisting. Success doesn’t come overnight. It takes time, effort, and continuous improvement.

If you keep doing what you’ve always done, nothing will change. You need to do different things, learn, and adapt. For example, I’ve been coding for ten years, but I still look back at my old projects to see how I’ve improved. I recently revisited some code I wrote 12 years ago. It’s fascinating to see how much I’ve grown, but also how much I already knew back then.

Keep Improving and Challenging Yourself

I moved recently—first from South Australia to New South Wales, and now to Melbourne. Moving is a big change, and I like to reflect on my past projects and skills. I even have an old programming language I created during a vacation in Guadeloupe in 2012. I bought that book in French, and it helped me develop new languages, like Goya, which I built before Google’s Go language existed.

Back then, I committed my code in a different way—less frequently, but more thoroughly. My last commit for Goya was in 2013, after six months of work. I created a language with 54 files. It was a big challenge, but it pushed me to learn and grow.

The point is, doing things that scare you or seem difficult is necessary. It’s how you improve. I used to work a lot with PHP, C++, Python, Perl, and later JavaScript. I kept evolving, trying new tools and languages. I learned Angular, React, React Native, and more. Each step made me better at solving problems.

Reflect on Your Day and Keep Moving Forward

It’s important to step back and review your day. Ask yourself: How did it go? What could I have done better? What can I do tomorrow to improve? This kind of reflection helps you grow. It’s not about judging yourself harshly but about making small adjustments.
