Think about it: maybe every morning you make your coffee the same way, at the same time, with just the right amount of sugar and milk. Or perhaps every evening at five, you treat yourself to a piece of shortbread before dinner. These are not just habits; they’re your personal rituals.

For me, every morning starts with a short walk around the block. It only takes about ten minutes, but it’s my way to begin the day. I live by the bay, so I get to watch the sunrise with palm trees in the background. It’s a simple pleasure, but it’s become part of who I am.

This idea of rituals isn’t new. Take Queen Elizabeth II, for example. She had her own set of daily rituals. Every evening, she enjoyed a small glass of whisky and took a bath with a yellow rubber duck—apparently a gift from her grandchildren. She was known for her sense of humor, even if her smile was a bit reserved. These little routines probably brought her moments of joy, especially when shared with her family.

Another one of her rituals was having tea at exactly five o’clock. She never missed it. That’s the thing about rituals: they’re often done with the same regularity as a religious practice. Most people have one or two that they stick to every day, not dozens. It’s about quality, not quantity.
