There’s a simple idea that has changed my life: taking action. It sounds basic, but it’s the difference between moving forward and staying stuck. Even something as small as cleaning your phone screen can be a positive step. When you do something, especially something good, you improve your environment and your mindset.

But it’s not just about doing anything. If you spend your time on habits that don’t serve you—like snacking while watching mindless TV shows—days slip by, and you don’t get closer to the person you want to become. Every action you take today will have an impact, positive or negative, in the next five years. That’s a powerful thought.

Aligning Your Actions With Your Long-Term Goals

Think about who you want to be in five years. Every small effort you make today, if it’s in line with that vision, will slowly lift you toward your goal. On the other hand, if you fill your days with things that pull you away from your dreams, or surround yourself with people who don’t share your values, you’ll find it much harder to get where you want to go. You might even feel frustrated or lost.

Your environment matters. If you wake up late on a Saturday, even though you planned to get up early and do something meaningful, it’s easy to feel like you’ve wasted the day. But instead of letting that negativity take over, you can choose to make the most of the time you have left. Ask yourself: what can I do right now that will have a positive effect? Even a small action can change your mood and set you on a better path for the rest of the day.

Positive Triggers and Energy

Some activities instantly boost your mood and energy. Listening to your favorite playlist, moving your body, dancing, or going for a jog can all help. Even if you’re tired, doing something active will make you feel better. Taking a cold shower might not be pleasant, but it gives you a rush of energy and pride. Afterward, you’re less likely to crawl back into bed—you’ll want to start your day and get things done.

The more you fill your days with these positive triggers, the more they become part of your routine. Over time, you’ll feel more energetic and confident, and you’ll be much more likely to reach your goals in three or five years. Every day, you’re building habits that support the person you want to become.

The Power of Your Environment

Who you spend time with matters. If you’re surrounded by people who drag you down or have completely different interests, it’s like swimming against the current. It’s exhausting and makes it much harder to succeed. But if you’re with people who encourage you and share your direction, everything feels easier. You’re swimming with the current, not against it.

Think of it like being a fish in the right river. If you’re surrounded by piranhas, you’ll always be fighting just to survive. But if you’re with the right group, you’ll thrive. Your environment is the soil where you grow. If you’re trying to grow on concrete, it’s almost impossible. But in the right soil, you can flourish.

Invest Your Time Wisely

Time is your most valuable resource. Money comes and goes, but time only moves forward. When you lose three hours, they’re gone forever. That’s why I often pause every few hours and ask myself: How did I use the last three hours? Am I happy with how I spent them? What can I do in the next three hours to make myself proud?

This simple exercise helps me stay on track and make the most of each day. I encourage you to try it. You’ll be surprised at how much more satisfied you feel with your days.

Build Your Ideal Day

For me, waking up early is precious. Those quiet hours in the morning are just for me—my “me time.” Maybe that’s not your thing, and that’s fine. What matters is finding what works for you and sticking to it. If you wake up late, don’t beat yourself up. Instead, focus on making the rest of your day count.

The real goal is to wake up naturally, without an alarm, at the same time every day. That way, you’re not jolted out of deep sleep, and you start your day feeling rested and ready. It’s all about rhythm and consistency.
