When was the last time you truly appreciated what you ate? Not just eating to fill up, but really savoring every bite, letting the flavors linger, and feeling grateful for the moment. For me, cheese is my guilty pleasure. I’m a true cheese lover. It’s my little weakness, my playful guide to happiness. I often snack on cheese, and it brings me real joy.

Maybe for you, it’s risotto, jam sandwiches, tuna with rice, or rustic bread with celery and fresh cheese. These are the kinds of foods that, especially when they’re wholesome, can turn a simple meal into a celebration. Of course, cheese isn’t always the healthiest choice, but sometimes I like to enjoy it with a good glass of red wine, a salad, and a fresh baguette. Even if it’s not the best for my health, having this treat once a month makes it feel special. After all, we become what we eat, and I believe that eating good food—or even not-so-healthy food, as long as it brings you joy—lets you savor the present moment.

What really matters is being present. When I eat, I try to put away my phone and computer. I focus only on the food and, if I’m lucky, the company—whether it’s my partner, my family, my kids, or a close friend. Sharing a meal without distractions lets you truly enjoy both the food and the people around you.

Even when I’m alone, I make it a point to savor each bite. Take chocolate, for example. I love dark chocolate. Sometimes I break off a square, let it melt slowly in my mouth, and really pay attention to the taste and texture. I close my eyes and focus only on the sensation. This is a kind of meditation. It’s simple, easy, and fun. If you really enjoy it, it can be a moment of pure pleasure.

You can do the same with a strong espresso or any food that makes you happy. Take your time, enjoy the flavors, and let yourself be fully present. These small moments of mindfulness can add real joy to your day. They help you relax, lower your heart rate, and maybe even reduce your blood pressure. Life deserves to be savored like this.

So, I invite you to try it. Next time you eat something you love, slow down. Pay attention. Enjoy it with all your senses. These little rituals can make life sweeter and more positive, both before and after the meal. They’re like tiny meditations that help you reconnect with yourself and the world around you.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.
