How I Build Momentum on Gloomy Days and Shape My Future

Accomplishment isn’t left to chance—it’s a process of daily self-investment, adapting to your environment, and holding both short- and long-term visions for

A gray winter afternoon can feel like a weight pressing down on your ambitions. The sky is heavy, daylight fades before you’re ready, and even the most motivated among us can sense our energy shifting. I know this feeling well—today, as I look out the window, it’s already dark by 5:02 p.m., and the world outside seems to be urging me to slow down. But I’ve learned that these external factors, from the weather to our environment, are only part of the story when it comes to achieving what matters.

What truly matters is how we build the capacity to accomplish, to move forward, and to create a life that aligns with our vision. This isn’t left to chance. It’s a process—one that requires intention, self-investment, and a clear sense of direction.

Two Visions: Short-Term and Long-Term

I’ve found it essential to hold two types of visions for myself. The first is a short-term vision: what I want to accomplish in the next six months. This is a concrete goal that matters deeply to me, something I’m willing to prioritize and work toward every day.

The second is a long-term vision, stretching five to eight years into the future. This vision is less about what I want to do and more about who I want to become. Sometimes, I’m inspired by people I admire and think, “I’d love to be that kind of person.” That aspiration becomes the guiding star for my long-term journey.

Both visions are crucial. The short-term keeps me focused and driven, while the long-term gives meaning and direction to my efforts. Every day, I ask myself: What small step can I take to invest in myself, nurture my well-being, and move closer to the things I dream of achieving?

It’s not always easy. Our surroundings—people, culture, even the country we live in—shape our mindset and energy. Today’s gloomy weather is a perfect example. When the days are short and the sky is gray, I notice that my actions and accomplishments shift. The environment impacts us, whether we realize it or not.

But we can adapt. You might choose to move to a sunnier place, but you can also create comfort and inspiration right where you are. I often turn to the Danish concept of “hygge,” which I discuss in my book Le succès n’est pas loin. When the weather is dreary, I make a ritual of cozying up by the fireplace, enjoying a homemade hot chocolate, and allowing myself a moment of comfort and relaxation. These well-being rituals help me disconnect, recharge, and think differently.

Winter is a time for brainstorming and reflection. I tend to write more, plan more, and save my energy. Summer, on the other hand, is when I act on those plans—taking courses, launching projects, and pushing forward with my vision. Even if you have a full-time job or freelance commitments, your personal project—your passion—deserves this kind of seasonal attention.

Building Your Ideal Day, Week, and Life

The journey toward accomplishment is made up of small, daily investments in yourself. Sometimes, that means brainstorming ideas or journaling about what you want to do more of. Other times, it’s about taking concrete steps—learning, creating, or simply reflecting on what brings you joy.

I encourage you to think about your ideal day. What would it look like? Take time to meditate on this, or review your past weeks and notice what made you feel fulfilled. Gradually, you’ll start to see patterns and can shape your ideal week or month. The ultimate goal is happiness—a life that excites and inspires you.

The Best Time to Act Is Now

There’s a temptation to wait for the “right moment” to start working toward your dreams. But in my experience, the best time to act is always today. Putting things off rarely serves us. If you truly want something—if it becomes your number one priority—then every step you take to optimize your life and move closer to your vision is a win.

The secret is to compare yourself not to others, but to who you were yesterday. By consistently expanding your comfort zone and investing in your growth, you’ll see progress. Over time, these small actions add up, and you’ll find yourself living the life you once only imagined.

Everything is possible if you truly want it. Make your vision your top priority, invest in yourself, and move forward—one step at a time. The life of your dreams is within reach.
