How Achieving a Life Goal Changes Everything

What does it mean to accomplish something truly meaningful? It’s not just about ticking off a to-do list or reaching a milestone at work. It’s about doing something that matters deeply to you, something that lights a fire inside and keeps you going, even when things get tough.
For some, this could mean building a startup around a problem you know inside out, a challenge that keeps you up at night because you care so much about finding the best solution. You might spend months or even years working on it, falling in love with the process, always searching for better answers, maybe even offering different solutions at different price points. For others, accomplishment might look like living a happy, nomadic life, traveling freely, or simply finding security by buying a home and living self-sufficiently.
Take, for example, the open-source project FarmBot. It’s not cheap, but imagine buying your own greenhouse for your garden, growing your own fruits and vegetables with ease. Maybe that’s your dream lifestyle. The point is, having a long-term goal in your mind is crucial. When you wake up in the morning, even if you have a regular job or freelance gigs just to pay the bills, you know that part of your day will be spent on your real project—the one that truly matters to you.
You might get up at 5, 6, or even 4:30 in the morning to carve out a couple of hours for your long-term goal. The rest of your day might be filled with other work, but you know that’s not your endgame. Your real purpose is your project, the one you’re building bit by bit every day. That’s what counts, because it reflects who you really are and the life you want to live.

I’m right there with you. You have to believe in your long-term project so strongly that you can see it clearly in your mind. You need to be absolutely sure it’s possible. I once wrote about the law of attraction and how you can use it to stack the odds in your favor and build something amazing. Life is short, and if you keep putting off your goals until tomorrow or the next day, they’ll never happen. There will always be an excuse, and it will never feel like the right time. You’ll always be busy with something else.
You have to block out time every day and be disciplined, both with yourself and with those around you. No negotiations. This is your life. If you can find time for a shower or to brush your teeth, you can find time for your project. We don’t usually say, “I’m too busy to shower today, I’ll do it tomorrow.” Sure, it happens, but it’s rare. We don’t put off brushing our teeth for days on end. So why do we put off our long-term dreams?
Believe in yourself. Everything is possible if you really want it. I believe in you, truly. Go for it.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
— Eleanor Roosevelt
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
— C.S. Lewis
