Adopt a Growth Mindset or Stay Stuck in the Past

For a long time, the path to a “good life” seemed simple: study hard, get impressive diplomas, and land a stable job where you could spend decades. That’s what our parents and grandparents did. But things have changed. Today, the most important skill isn’t just about formal education. It’s about being curious, learning on your own, and staying open to new possibilities.

Of course, if you want to be a doctor, a surgeon, or a judge, you’ll need to go through years of study. But for many other paths, being self-taught, learning online, and nurturing your curiosity are just as valuable—maybe even more so. The world moves quickly, and careers are no longer set in stone. You might be an engineer today, a café owner tomorrow, and who knows, maybe a veterinarian later on. Trying different things opens your mind in ways you never imagined.

If you ask your parents or grandparents, they’ll tell you life was different for them. So, what should you do now? Stay open-minded. Learn how to learn. Make curiosity your habit. Research is easier than ever. With artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Mistral, you have almost all the world’s knowledge at your fingertips. This means you can do so much more, as long as you keep asking questions.

But don’t fall into the trap of doing things just to look clever. If you want to start a business, don’t focus only on what seems “smart.” Focus on what you love and what your users actually want. You can do all the research in the world, but if your customers don’t care, what’s the point? What matters is building something that lasts, something that can grow into your own little empire. And remember, empires aren’t built in a year. They take time.

If you spend just one or two hours every day, consistently, you’ll see the difference. Regularity and perseverance are what set successful people apart. Sometimes, you’ll feel lost or unsure, but if you keep showing up, the rest will follow.

There’s a big difference between perseverance and stubbornness. Stubbornness is when you keep going even though it’s clearly not working. Perseverance is when you see a glimmer of hope and keep pushing, knowing you’re close. Resilience is a virtue. Stubbornness, not so much. If something isn’t working, don’t be afraid to pivot. Change your angle. For example, if you’re building a social network for all pets but it’s not working, maybe focus just on fish owners. Sometimes, narrowing your focus is the smartest move.

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”
— Robert Collier

Another key to success is knowing exactly who you’re talking to. In business, this means creating an “avatar”—a detailed profile of your ideal customer. Give them a name, hobbies, a job, even a style of clothing. The more complete your avatar, the better. Imagine you’re creating content just for “Julien,” the football player, or “Amélie,” the creative type. What do they like? What do they need? When you write or create for a specific person, your message becomes clearer and more powerful.

If your product is for men or women, pick a name that fits. If it’s for footballers, maybe “Julien” or “Ronald” works better than “Charles-Edouard.” Think about what your avatar loves, what they buy, and how they behave. You can even base your avatar on a real friend, or invent one from scratch. Add as many details as you can: their age, what they like and dislike, their job, their pets, their style. The more real your avatar feels, the easier it is to create something they’ll love.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”
— Mark Twain

Building a life or a business that fits you doesn’t happen by accident. It takes intention, patience, and a willingness to adjust when things don’t work out. Life is short, so take it step by step. If you love what you do and know exactly who you’re doing it for, you’ll go far.
