Accomplishing Big Things Is a Skill, Not a Gift

Personal Growth Skills

The drive to accomplish more isn’t a gift reserved for a lucky few—it’s a skill anyone can develop. I’ve learned that moving forward and creating a life aligned with your vision depends less on innate talent and more on daily choices and perspective. Yet, progress isn’t always straightforward. Our ambitions often meet resistance from our environment, our moods, and even the weather outside.

Two Visions: Short-Term and Long-Term

Real progress starts with clarity on two fronts. First, I define a short-term vision: a concrete goal I want to achieve in the next six months, something that matters deeply to me right now. Second, I hold a long-term vision, looking five to eight years ahead—not just what I want to do, but who I want to become. If I could design my ideal life, what kind of person would I be? Sometimes, I look to people who inspire me and think, “I’d love to be that kind of person.” That’s the essence of my long-term vision.

Each day, I ask: what small step can I take to invest in myself and move closer to these visions? The answer isn’t always obvious, and the process is rarely easy.

The Influence of Environment and Season

Our surroundings shape us more than we realize. The people around us, the country we live in, even the weather—all influence our energy and what we accomplish. For example, today the sky is gray, winter darkness arrives early, and by 5 p.m., it already feels like night. The shorter days change my rhythm. In winter, my focus shifts inward, both physically and mentally.

Instead of resisting, I adapt. I might not be able to move to a sunnier country, but I can create comfort at home. The Danish concept of “hygge” comes to mind—a philosophy I discuss in my book, Le succès n’est pas loin. When the weather turns dreary, I light a fire if I can, settle in with a homemade hot chocolate, and carve out a moment of warmth and relaxation. These rituals aren’t just about comfort; they’re about well-being and recharging so I can think differently.

Seasonal Shifts in Productivity

Each season brings its own rhythm. Winter is for brainstorming, reflection, and conserving energy. I write more, plan more, and think deeply about my direction. Summer is for action—training, building, and moving closer to my vision. Even if you have a full-time job or freelance commitments, your personal passion project deserves this kind of seasonal attention.

Every day, I do a little something for myself. Sometimes it’s brainstorming or reflecting on what I want to do more of. Other times, it’s writing or learning something new. The key is consistency, not intensity.

Designing Your Ideal Day

Reflect on what your ideal day would look like. Take a moment to meditate on it. Review your recent days and weeks—what worked, what didn’t? Gradually, you’ll shape your ideal week, your ideal month. The ultimate goal is happiness: a life that excites and fulfills you.

The best time to take action is now. There’s no point in postponing what matters to you. Everything is possible if you truly want it and make it your top priority. When optimizing your life and moving closer to your vision becomes your main focus, you start to see real change.

Progress Is Personal

This journey isn’t about comparing yourself to others. It’s about investing in yourself, expanding your comfort zone, and measuring progress against your own past. Each small step builds on the last, and over time, you’ll find yourself living the life you once only dreamed about.

Take that first step today. Invest in yourself, nurture your vision, and remember: everything is possible if you make it your priority.
